Standard Wastage Consideration for Building Materials

Steel Materials:

Allowable wastage for steel works is 3 %( i.e. cutting/bending wastage).

For reconciliation purpose, + or -2% allowable for rolling margin in this accounts.

Above 25mm dia of rods 5% wastage should be considered

Concrete Materials:

Concrete pouring or placing time & during loading, transportation lot of concrete it will be waste. So normally concrete wastage 3% considered.

Tiles Materials:

Tiles loading, transportation and placing time lot of broken and cutting it will be happened.

Tiles wastage normally 5% Considered.

Paint Materials:

Paints applying at the time some paints it will fall on the ground.so during time wastage it will be happen.

Paints wastage normally 2% Considered.

Granite Materials:

Granite materials loading, transportation and placing time lot of broken and cutting it will be happened.

Granite wastage normally 5% to 8% will be considered.

Bricks Materials:

Bricks materials loading, transportation and placing time lot of broken and cutting it will be happened.

Bricks wastage normally 5% will be considered

Cement Materials:

Cement materials loading, transportation, mixing, shifting & placing time lot of wastage it will be happened.

Cement materials wastage normally 1.5% to 2% will be considered.

Coarse Aggregate Materials:

Coarse aggregate materials loading, transportation and placing time lot of wastage it will be happened.

Coarse aggregate materials wastage normally 5% will be considered.

Fine Aggregate Materials:

Fine aggregate materials loading, transportation and placing time lot of wastage it will be happened.

Fine aggregate materials wastage normally 10% will be considered.

Structural Steel Materials:

Structural steel materials fabrication time lot of cutting and wastage it will be happened.

Structural steel materials wastage normally 5 to 10% will be considered.

  1. Thanks for the useful information as always, could you please share and explain how to calculate number of manpower to be required ?

  2. Thank you, I have recently been looking for
info approximately this topic for ages and yours
is the best I’ve discovered so far. But, what concerning the conclusion? Are you positive
    concerning the supply?

  3. I am not satisfied with the wastage been given in this blog. I am associated with the paint industry since 10 years. i have never seen or observed 2% wastage.

Its always been 15 to 20% wastage. The paint which shall be dried in the bucket. where it will go by the way.

  4. Dear All,
    As per my experience, all the above wastage % or impractical and might be nearest to the standard practice in construction Industries. With over 25 years of experience below are my findings;
    Steel: 5-7%
    Paint: 5-10%
Concrete: 2-5% depending upon the pour volume and methodology.
    Finishing Tiles: 2-4%
Bricks: 3-7% depends on the class of Bricks.
Aggregates: 4-6% depends on stock volume/condition.
    Cement: 1-2%.
