Difference Between Plastering and Pointing

Plastering:
  1. Plastering is use to protect the exposed surface of the masonry.
  2. Cement, Sand and lime are used in plastering.
  3. Plastering is done it both sides of surface (inside and outside).
  4. In plastering work we use the large amount of materials.
  5. After the plastering the defects of masonry are not visible.
  6. When we plastering the wall. After the plastering surface become smooth and plain.
Pointing:
  1. In pointing only joints are properly filled with mortar.
  2. In pointing we just use cement mortar.
  3. Pointing is done only at the outer side of the wall.
  4. We use less amount of mortar.
  5. After the pointing surface doesn’t become smooth and plan.
  6. In after pointing the defects of masonry can be seen.
